The role: Key Account Manager

Warsaw, Gdynia or Kraków · remote across Poland possible · full time

An importer does not buy a freight rate. They buy a figure they can put into a costing sheet before the goods leave the supplier: ocean or air freight, customs clearance and the final leg to their own gate, quoted as one landed cost they can defend in front of a finance director. Selling that figure is the job.

You work new business across ocean freight, air freight and the China–Europe rail lanes. You find the importer or exporter, read the shipment with them, and decide together whether it moves FCL, LCL, by air, or on a rail departure. Rate building, documentation and the customs side sit with people who have been doing this for years; the commercial judgement is yours, and so is the book you build.

This is a key account manager freight forwarding role built around acquisition. Project cargo, transhipment, bulk cargo and time-critical work all sit inside the same portfolio, so a conversation that opens with one container does not have to end there. Warsaw, Gdynia and Kraków are all open as a base, and so is working remotely from anywhere in Poland.

The sales cycle you'll own

Five stages, from an importer who has never heard of us to a shipping programme you can forecast. This is what the week actually looks like.

  1. First contact

You reach an importer who today splits a single shipment across three suppliers: a forwarder for the sea leg, an agency for clearance, a haulier for the last hundred kilometres. Nobody owns the whole thing. That is where the conversation starts.

  2. Reading the shipment

Incoterms first, because the Incoterm decides who is even entitled to buy the freight. Then volumes, packing, the parties named on the bill of lading, and what the buyer has already promised their own customer. A sea freight sales representative in Poland spends more time here than on a rate sheet.

  3. Mode against deadline

Ocean freight when cost decides. Air freight when a missing part stops a line. Rail China–Europe when the answer is neither. You put the three side by side with real transit times and let the client's own deadline choose. Being able to say that air is not worth it is what makes the next quote credible.

  4. The quote

Freight, customs clearance, duty and VAT handling, final delivery — one landed-cost figure with the assumptions written next to it. Gdynia gives you the quay, Warsaw and Kraków the airport and the rail terminal; the client still sees a single line.

  5. First shipment, then steady volume

The first booking is a test, not a win. You stay on it through loading, transhipment and delivery, then turn one successful shipment into a monthly volume you can forecast and price against.

The profile we're hiring for

Two lists, kept honest. The first is what the role cannot work without; the second is an advantage, not a condition.

Must-have

  • Sales experience in international freight forwarding, with results — quotes, negotiations and closed contracts, not operations alone.
  • Importers or exporters who will take your call today, rather than a list you would have to warm up first.
  • Incoterms, transport documentation and customs procedure as working knowledge: you can read a bill of lading and say what is wrong with it.
  • English at C1 — you talk to carriers, overseas agents and a large part of the client base without an interpreter.

Nice-to-have

  • Project cargo or bulk cargo behind you: out-of-gauge, breakbulk, chartering.
  • The Chinese market — how agents work there, how a supplier in Shenzhen actually places a booking.
  • A second foreign language. German, Spanish, Italian and Mandarin all get used on this desk.
  • Manufacturing clients, where a late shipment stops a production line and the buyer knows exactly what that costs.

What MTEAM puts behind you

  • Commission calculated on the margin you generate, with no upper limit written into the plan.
  • A bonded warehouse inside the group — you can offer deferred duty and VAT instead of asking a client to tie up cash at the border.
  • Rail China–Europe as a bargaining card when ocean rates move against you in the middle of a quarter.
  • A team carrying 35+ years of forwarding experience, so pricing and operations answer you the same day.
  • Warsaw, Gdynia or Kraków, or remote across Poland. The desk is your choice and it does not change the commission.

Our hiring process

Four steps, with the timings we hold ourselves to.

  1. Application

    Reply within 5 working days

You send a CV to the address below. Every application gets an answer, including when the answer is no. Logistics sales jobs in Warsaw are advertised often and answered rarely; that is not how this one runs.

  2. Online interview

    45 minutes

Commercial, not technical. How your last portfolio was built, who you would call in the first month, where you think our rates will be uncompetitive. Part of it runs in English — these are freight forwarding jobs in Warsaw, Gdynia and Kraków where English is the working language, not a line on the CV.

  3. Meeting with the board

About 90 minutes, Warsaw or online

You meet the people who sign off on rates and commission. Bring the questions you would rather not ask a recruiter: margin levels, how quickly a non-standard quote gets approved, what happens to your commission when a client stays and you move on.

  4. Decision and offer

Within a week of that meeting

Terms in writing, with the commission mechanism set out in full rather than summarised. If it is a no, you get the reason.

How to apply
